Currency conversion charges for cards transactions

According to the institutional framework set by the European Union (EU Regulation 518/2019), the total amount of currency conversion charges for all card transactions (credit, debit & prepaid cards) must be expressed as a surcharge on the most recent available exchange rate of the euro, against foreign currencies published by the European Central Bank (ECB), by all payment service providers, providing a currency conversion service in all transactions (ATM or POS) in the same way.

Thus, every time you make a transaction (either purchase or cash withdrawal via ATM) with your card, within EU Region in another foreign currency other than Euro, you can easily and clearly compare currency conversion charges that are notified to you at the ATM or POS, with the charges applicable by Piraeus Bank, in order you could decide and choose which way you want the currency conversion for your transaction.

According  to the EU Regulation, from 19/4/2021 onwards you will be receiving an sms notification to the mobile phone number you have declared to the Bank as contact number, with the above information for the currency conversion charges every time you make transactions using your cards in non-euro currency (purchases or cash withdrawals) and within the EEA*.

The sms are sent free of charge. If you wish to change the channel of receiving the electronic messages (i.e.to be sent via e-mail), or to not receive any electronic messages at all, you can declare it through the electronic banking system winbank or in any Piraeus Bank’s branch from 19/4/2021.

Aiming to a better service for its customers, Piraeus Bank provides the same information for additional currencies outside the European Union.

*EEA: European Economic Area consists of EE countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. From the above information, the currency of Island is excluded.
