How do I get my Social Benefits Card?
The Social Benefits Card is issued for the crediting of benefits, allowances, and aids of the Public Employment Service (DYPA) and the Organisation of Welfare Benefits and Social Solidarity (OPEKA) to their beneficiaries. According to the legal framework, benefits will be paid by crediting a special prepaid card issued by a Payment Service Provider (PSP), where the beneficiary maintains an active payment account (IBAN).
- The card is sent by post, deactivated, to the address indicated by the beneficiary when he/she applied for the benefit/allowance/aid and is accompanied by a letter with instructions for its activation.
- The card can be activated through the bank's ATM or through Piraeus e-banking, Piraeus app or by phone at +30 210 3288000 from Greece or abroad.
- The Personal Identification Number (PIN) of the card is sent to the same address by registered mail.
Can I have more than one Social Benefits Card?
- Each beneficiary has only one prepaid card for the payment of all their social benefits that fall under the new payment method.
Does the Social Benefits Card have issuing and usage costs?
- The Social Benefits Card does not have any costs for issuing or using the card.
Where can I use my Social Benefits Card?
The Social Benefits Card can be used for transactions in physical and online shops (e-shops) and for telephone orders in specific businesses (excluding gambling (excluding gambling and purchase of weapons) that carry the Visa brand, exclusively in Greece and in countries within the European Union, until the available balance is exhausted. Based on the specifications set by the legal framework, the possibility of cash withdrawal is given, up to 50% of the amount of each allowance, while no possibility of unload is provided.
It is a prepaid card and has Chip & PIN Contactless plastic technology with contactless transaction facility and is loaded with the amount of benefit to which the holder is entitled, upon instruction from DYPA and OPEKA.
How does the Social Benefits Card work?
The transactions you make are paid immediately from the available balance. If the available balance is insufficient, the transaction is not executed.
How can I manage my card?
The management of your card, i.e. the monitoring of your transactions, the set/change PIN, block/unblock and its activation is easy, at any time of the day, from wherever you are:
- online via Piraeus e-banking or from your mobile phone with the Piraeus app
- via Piraeus phone banking, except for set/change PIN
- by phone at 210 3288000 for card activation, detailed card details, card transactions, set/change PIN.
- via ATM for cash withdrawal up to 50% of the amount of each benefit, card activation, card details and transactions)
How can I collect expenses for the tax free amount, through electronic means of payments?
You can collect expenses by using Piraeus Bank credit, debit and prepaid cards as well as by making electronic payments through Piraeus e-banking, Piraeus app and Piraeus phone banking.
I am a beneficiary of the Minimum Guaranteed Income, and I already have a prepaid card. What happens in my case?
- If you already have a prepaid KEA card, the benefit will be credited to the prepaid card you already hold.

Card issuance
The Social Benefits card is issued in the name of the beneficiaries on the basis of a relevant order of the respective institution (DYPA, OPEKA) to the Bank. The card is mailed as inactive, to the address that the beneficiary stated at his application to receive the allowance, accompanied by a letter with instructions for its activation.
Daily transaction limit
€10,000/day, if there is an available balance, you can use the Social Benefits card for transactions in physical and electronic shops (e-shops), and for telephone orders in specific businesses (excluding gambling and purchase of weapons) that carry the Visa brand exclusively in Greece and in countries within the European Union.
Reload fee
There is no possibility of reloading with the holder's own funds. The card is only credited with allowances and benefits of the Public Employment Service (DYPA) and the Organisation of Welfare Benefits and Social Solidarity (OPEKA).
