What happens if during the video call with the bank representative, the call is interrupted by a random factor?

In this case, you will have to start the process from the beginning.

What are the available hours to video call with a representative?

A representative will be available to assist you:

  • Monday - Friday: 8.00 a.m. - 8.30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10.00 a.m. - 3.30 p.m.

Is it possible to service A.M.E.A. (customers with disabilities)?

There is the possibility to serve people with hearing impairments, as the Piraeus Bank representative in the video call is sign language trained.

Why is the video call step mandatory?

The video call is necessary, according to the respective regulatory instructions for remote electronic identification, aiming to open an account from the mobile phone.

Can I help a familiar person with the video call?

If two people appear in the video call (e.g. grandchild/grandparent - child/parent) if it is not clear for the identified person that he has legal capacity (e.g. lack of sanity/ difficulty in communication/ reduced perception) then the identification cannot be continued. If the second person does not interfere with the answers of the person to be identified and assists in the process, the identification continues normally.

Why is it mandatory to provide my details to the bank?

In accordance with  the European Union and internationally, Law 4557/2018 and the relevant decision 281/5/17.3.2009 of the Bank of Greece Banking and Credit Committee , as applicable, established a specific regulatory framework regarding the prevention of the use of the financial system for money laundering and terrorism financing purposes. This framework seeks to:

- ensure the integrity of the banking system
- protect the legitimate interests of each trader and safeguard his/her financial transactions

Under this regulatory framework, banks are obliged to refrain from executing a transaction unless they have first authenticated and verified the identity of the person making the transaction. They are also obliged to request from their customers documentation such as legal documents (for legal entities), documents certifying the customer's identity (for individuals), income tax payment slip and/or income tax return, transaction documents, etc., and to keep such information on file. For this reason, when the bank asks for your information for a transaction or to start or continue your banking relationship, you should know that it applies the requirements of the applicable law and cannot do otherwise.

What use is made by the bank of the information I provide and any personal data contained therein?

According to Law 4624/2019, Law 2472/1997, as applicable, and the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation EU/2016/679), the data you provide to banks:
- are safely collected and kept securely for the period of time   required by the relevant legislation
- are used exclusively for the purpose of their collection, while any violation of this legislation by banks will result in severe penalties and strict fines.

Exactly what information will it be requested and how will I be asked to certify it?

According to an explicit provision of the Law 4557/2018 (article 13) the income of a customer (individual or legal person) is verified by a bank on the basis of the recent administrative tax determination act.

If you wish to open a bank account, lease a safe deposit box, take out a loan or carry out other transactions (such as, for example, a credit transfer or wire transfer), the information that the law requires you to provide - whether you are the main beneficiary, co-beneficiary, primary debtor or guarantor - and the documents you will be asked to provide for their authentication, can be found by following the link.

For foreign residents, the above documents certifying the data must be translated into Greek or English and certified by the Greek Embassy or the Greek Consulate or the Notary Public of the country in question or by an official Greek Public Authority.
