Commemoration Actions

Piraeus Bank actively participates in commemorating activities that honour the history of Greece, contributing to the preservation of memory and our historical journey.

In the context of the Bicentennial of the Greek Revolution, the Bank supported a series of activities that included scientific research, culture, arts, and letters, bringing the role of the Revolution in the creation of the modern Greek state to the fore. Activities such as historical reenactments, exhibits from archival collections, and documentary screenings offered the public the opportunity to learn more about modern Greek history. The Piraeus Bank commemorating actions were carried out in collaboration with distinguished institutions, renowned scientists, and great artists. All commemorating actions were digitised and presented to expatriate Greeks, becoming a cultural legacy for future generations. Detailed information on Piraeus’ actions related to the Bicentennial of the Greek Revolution can be found at the following link:

In order to assess the impact of the actions implemented for the Bicentennial of the Greek Revolution, Piraeus Bank applied the Social Return on Investment (SROI) method. SROI is a social return on investment indicator used to measure the value that Corporate Responsibility Programmes create for society, the economy, and the environment. This assessment was commissioned and implemented by the Centre for Sustainability (CSE). The resulting social return on investment ratio is equal to 3.2:1, i.e. based on the international SROI methodology, it is estimated that for every €1 invested in the implementation of Piraeus Bank’s commemorating activities, the value created to society is equivalent to €3.2.
Piraeus Bank  commemorated the Centennial of the Asia Minor Catastrophe and the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne on population exchange (1923), with actions that highlight the importance of this painful event in the collective historical memory. By supporting exhibitions, lectures, and research programmes, the Bank contributed to the emergence of new historical data and to the understanding of the Asia Minor Catastrophe’s impact on the shaping of modern Greek society and identity.
Through its commemorating actions, Piraeus Bank enhances the value of historical research and contributes to the connection and teaching of the current generation through history.
